Katherine Butler started Urban Reiver's design and illustration services in 2009 after graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design from Heriot-Watt University. It was there that she was introduced to the exciting world of illustration and graphic design, as well as learning how to make wonderful clothes and knit with her own hand-spun wool.  It interested Katherine so much that she found herself a work placement at a great creative design consultancy in Liverpool, Smilingwolf.  It was after this she decided that design was what she did best and went on to set up on her own as a freelancer.

After a short struggle to find her first project, Katherine finally secured a contract with a Marketing and Design Agency to design their logo and business stationery.  From there she went on to design a book cover and then another, continuing to expand and diversify into different types of graphic work. After working for a while under her own name, the decision was made to re-name the business as "Urban Reiver". It represents all that is dynamic and modern, but celebrates the traditional and nostalgic nature of Scotland, the place where Katherine found her inspiration.

In terms of bang for buck Katherine packs a massive punch. Her work is professional, meticulous and incredibly on point. Katherine has a great eye for detail and understands how to deliver the right feel for the brand. Katherine excels in illustrative design and bringing concepts to life but she has a wealth of other skills up her sleeve. We hired her for a logo and she now runs most of the business! A genuine asset in a World full of people talking the talk. I look forward to working more with Katherine.

Katherine worked with me over several months to develop the look and feel of my brand. Her attention to detail and knowledge of current design trends brought a professional and contemporary edge to our visual material both online and in print. Not only has she had an impact visually on the brand, but she has also contributed to online content, writing blogs and putting together newsletter and social media campaigns. I am delighted with all that she has achieved thus far and will look for opportunities to work with her again in the future.

I briefed Kat in to help with our Christmas campaigns, after our first conversation I was assured that she could bring to life the vision we had. Her approach and design was faultless and she brought a real freshness (whilst maintaining our look and feel) to the brand. That was our brief and she also surpassed expectations by adding her magic.

I had made a stab a designing the logo for my new business using a graphics programme but I am glad that somebody put me in touch with Katherine because she is so artistically creative and technically competent . She also had endless patience with my foibles and points of detail - her product incorporated the themes that I wanted but looks very professional and works on every level. She further developed the idea to create the sign writing scheme for my van – the best value advertising I will ever have! Her work was worth every penny and I have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone.

Katherine quickly understands the Brief, outlines her response - including projected costs and gets on with it. Results come in on time and with no surprises. Good to work with.
