Who is Urban Reiver?

Urban Reiver is Freelance Illustrator and Graphic Designer Katherine Butler.

In 2009 I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design from Heriot-Watt University. Not only did I learn how to make wonderful clothes and knit with my own hand-spun wool, I was also introduced to the exciting world of illustration and graphic design.  It interested me so much that I found myself a work placement at a great creative design consultancy in Liverpool called Smilingwolf.  Here I learned lots about the industry and was taught many tips and tricks to use in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.  It was after this I decided that design was what I did best and I went on to set up on my own as a freelancer.

After a short struggle to find my first project, I finally secured a contract with a Marketing and Design Agency to design their logo and business stationery.  From there I went on to design a book cover and then another, continuing to expand and diversify into different types of graphic work. After working for a while under my own name, I made the decision to re-name myself as “Urban Reiver” – representing all that is dynamic and modern, but still connecting my business to the more traditional and nostalgic part of Scotland (the Border Reivers).

I am passionate about making things look smart, unique and contemporary, always aiming towards the best for my client and achieving perfection if I can!
